The best practice for optimum functionality is to update your OS software to the highest supported version available for your particular device. This is particularly important when you upgrade your NotifyLink device client software, since NotifyLink functionality sometimes depends upon the OS version on which the device is running. For information on upgrading your BlackBerry OS, see Knowledge base article.
One example of OS dependent functionality is Email attachment support, which is based on the BlackBerry OS version as listed below:
• 4.5 – 7.0 – Attachments can be downloaded and saved to the file system or SD Card. Any attachment type can be opened and viewed directly from NotifyLink, provided there is an application installed which supports the file type.
• 4.3 through versions less than 4.5 – Attachments can be downloaded and saved to the file system or SD Card. Certain attachment types (mainly media types) can be opened and viewed directly from NotifyLink.
• 4.2.1 through versions less than 4.3 – Attachments can be downloaded and saved to the file system or SD Card, but cannot be opened directly from NotifyLink.
BlackBerry OS versions 4.5 – 7.0 come with the Office file attachment viewing application, Documents To Go® Standard. PDF files can be viewed in native format with a purchased copy of a PDF viewing application, such as, BeamReaderTM or Documents To Go® Premium. Follow instructions outlined in Knowledge Base article to install or upgrade this attachment viewing application.
Check your current BlackBerry OS version
