Profiles

NotifyLink provides an option in the BlackBerry Profiles that allows you to set how your device alerts you to incoming NotifyLink and NotifyLink – Level 1 notifications for email and PIM items.

If you plan to use alert tones for NotifyLink you will need to change the default Volume and Out of Holster/In Holster settings.  By default, Volume is set to “Mute” and Holster is set to “None,” which results in no audible alerts. 

While you are in the Profiles menu, it is also a good idea to set the profile alert for Low Memory.

 

BlackBerry profiles enable you to have a set of alerts for a variety of situations. The Default profile will be the one you use under normal circumstances.  You can also set Loud, Quiet, Vibrate, or Phone Only profiles that you can then switch to as the circumstance dictates.  You might want to switch to your Quiet or Vibrate profile, for example, when in a meeting or to your Loud profile when you are in a noisy location.

 

1.  Select the Profile icon from the Home screen.

2.  Scroll to Default, open the menu, and select Edit.

3.  The profiles set alert tones for the following types of notifications.  Scroll to NotifyLink or NotifyLink – Level 1 Messages, open the menu, and select Edit.

TIP:  Use different tones to distinguish between regular and Level 1 messages.

Setting	Description
Browser	Alert for web pages delivered by the native application.
Calendar	Alert for event reminders.
Level 1 Messages	Alert for incoming Level 1 messages delivered by the native application to another mailbox on the device.
Low Memory*	Alert when available memory is low on the device.
Messages	Alert for incoming email delivered by native email application to another mailbox on the device.
NotifyLink*	Alert for incoming email/PIM delivered by NotifyLink.
NotifyLink – Level 1 Messages*	Alert for incoming Level 1 messages delivered by NotifyLink.  Level 1 messages also appear on the message list screen with a red exclamation point. !
Phone	Alert (ring tone) for incoming phone calls.
SMS	Alert for incoming text messages delivered by the native application.
Tasks	Alert for task reminders.
Unsent Email	Alert for email left in the draft folder.

 

4.  Set the characteristics of the alert.

NOTE:  No audible alert plays if Volume is set to “Mute” or Out of Holster or In Holster is set to “None.”

 

Setting	Description
Out of Holster/In Holster:	How you want the device to alert you when it is out of or in the holster.  Choose from:  None, Tone, Vibrate, Vibrate + Tone
Tune:	Choose from the list of audible alerts and ring tones.
Volume:	Choose from:  Mute, Low, Medium, High, or Escalating.  Default volume for alert tones in the Profile application is “Mute.”  Alert tones will not be played until the volume has been turned on.
Number of Beeps:	Choose:  1, 2, 3
Repeat Notification	None, LED Flashing

5.  Select Save from the menu.
