Open Message: Menu Options and Keyboard Shortcuts

 

These are the menu options available when you are viewing an open message.

 

*  An asterisk indicates that the option is available only when you highlight Active Text Fields.

Menu Option

Call 000-000-0000*

Appears when an active text phone number is highlighted.  Calls the listed phone number.

 

SMS 000-000-0000*

Appears when an active text phone number is highlighted.  Sends a text message to the listed phone number.

 

Get Link*

Appears when an active text web address is highlighted.  Links to the web address.

 

Link Address*

Appears when an active text web address is highlighted.  Copies and pastes a web address into the web page field on a contact. 

 

Email with NotifySync*

Appears when an active text email address is highlighted.  Send a message to the email address using NotifySync.  Also available in the address book menu.

 

Email jdoe@genco.com *

Appears when an active text email address is highlighted.  Send a message to the email address using the native email application.

 

MMS jdoe@genco.com *

Appears when an active text email address is highlighted.   Send a text message to the email address using the native messaging application.

 

Add to Contacts*

Allows you to add an Active Text Field email address or phone number to your address book.

 

Copy

Copies highlighted or selected text.

 

Select / Cancel Selection

Allows you to select text.  Choose this option from the menu, then use the trackpad to scroll through the text you wish to select.

 

Next / Previous

Use to see the next or previous email in your message list without having to return to the message list screen to choose it.

N or n

P or p

Delete

Allows you to delete the current message.

Delete or Backspace

Forward

Forward the message.

F or f

Reply

Reply to the sender of the message.

R or r

Reply To All

Reply to the sender and all recipients of the message.

A or a

Quick Reply

Reply to the sender using predefined text phrases.

Q or q

Compose

Displays the Compose Message screen.

C or c

Resume Compose

Return to the composition area after scrolling or moving to the header area of a reply message.  See Knowledge Base articles on these topics: Scrolling and Moving to header.

 

Resume Text Cursor

Resume using a text cursor after scrolling away from the message header

On OS 5.0 devices that do not have a touch screen, scrolling away from the header changes the cursor to a pointer.  You must regain the text cursor in order to be able to perform any function in the header, such as opening an attachment, selecting an email address, or copying text.

Scroll to the header and click the trackpad

Retrieve Content

Appears when the message body is in HTML format.  If images are not automatically downloading, using this option will download the images.

 

Zoom In

Appears when message body is in HTML format.  Allows you to enlarge the view of an HTML message.  There are 4 levels of magnification.

 

Zoom Out

Appears when message body is in HTML format.  Allows you to reduce the view of an HTML message.  There are 4 levels of magnification.

 

Commands

Gives you commands to temporarily suspend email notification or block/unblock email from specific email addresses.  (See Commands below.)

 

Download Attachments

Appears when there is an attachment associated with a message.

 

View Recipients

See a list of recipients.  Lists email addresses in the To:, Cc:, Bcc:, and From: fields.

 

 

Scroll right when viewing an HTML message.  (Applies only to users with devices running BlackBerry OS 5.0 or greater.)

Scroll left when viewing an HTML message.  (Applies only to users with devices running BlackBerry OS 5.0 or greater.)

Hint: On devices where multiple characters share the same key, press the Alt key to use the second letter as a shortcut key.  Example:  To use ‘C’ for Compose, you would press Alt+C.
