Requirements

Licensing Requirements

You will need a NotifySync license key to register your device.
Obtain a license key by contacting Notify Technology Corporation at sales@notifycorp.com or 408.777.7930.

Internet Connection Requirements

You will need one of the following:

•      Cellular connection supporting data transmission through your mobile service provider.

•      WiFi connection with internet access.

Please refer to your device User Guide or contact your carrier/manufacturer for help in configuring this service.

Supported Groupware Servers

The NotifySync device client synchronizes Email and PIM items with groupware servers supporting the Exchange ActiveSync protocol.  See Knowledge Base article Knowledge Base article #429 for details.

Note:  If you are synchronizing with a Microsoft Exchange 2007 server that has been upgraded to Service Pack 1, please read Knowledge Base article #1099

Wireless Device Space Requirements

•      You need 1.2MB of free space available on your device to install the NotifySync application.

•      Additional space is needed to store the notifications that you receive and messages that you send.

Wireless Device Operating System Requirements

BlackBerry OS versions 4.2.1 – 5.0 are supported, however, email attachment support is based on the BlackBerry OS version as listed below.  The best practice is to upgrade the handheld operating system software to the latest version available for the device/carrier you are using.  Check carrier/device links for updates to the BlackBerry software

•      4.5 – 5.0 – Attachments can be downloaded and saved to the file system or SD Card.  Any attachment type can be opened and viewed directly from NotifySync, provided there is an application installed which supports the file type.

•      4.3 through versions less than 4.5 – Attachments can be downloaded and saved to the file system or SD Card.  Certain attachment types (mainly media types) can be opened and viewed directly from NotifySync.

•      4.2.1 through versions less than 4.3 – Attachments can be downloaded and saved to the file system or SD Card, but cannot be opened directly from NotifySync.

Hint: Any time you update device operating system software, you should also make sure you have installed the latest updates to the NotifySync software, since the OS update may unlock NotifySync functionality that is compatible with newer OS versions.  Use the Notify BlackBerry Installer to check for updates.  When you open it, a check initiates.  The Installer will then check mark the applications that have updates available.  Choose "Continue" to install them.  For information on upgrading your BlackBerry OS, see Knowledge Base article #699.

Verify the Requirements on Your Device

Check the OS version on which your device is operating

Go to Settings > Options > About.  The device model and device software version will be displayed at the top of the screen.

Check Available Memory

Go to Settings > Options > Status.   File Free displays the amount of memory available on the device.

Check whether your device has been provisioned for data connection

Test #1: If you can connect to the internet from the browser, chances are you are data provisioned.

Test #2:  Check whether your device supports BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).
From the Home screen select Settings > Options > Advanced Options > Service Book.  If there is a service book called, IPPP for BIBS [IPPP], the carrier supports BIS and the device is data provisioned.

Check whether your device is WiFi equipped

If your device is equipped with network connection alternatives (WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.) you may see an option called Connection Manager on the device’s main screen.  Use this to check for WiFi related menu items.  If the device only has an option to Turn Wireless On/Off, this indicates that the device does not offer connection alternatives.
