Registering Your Device

Once the NotifySync installation is complete, you can create and register your user account.
Email and PIM synchronization will not begin until you are registered.

The registration screens have User Assistance
Select Show Help from the menu to display help text.

You will need to supply the following information when registering your device.  Consult your mail server administrator.  eStore customers, refer to your NotifySync Registration Email.

      Domain

      License Key

      Server Address

To Begin

Select the NotifySync icon from your BlackBerry menu

Hint: It may be located in the Applications or the Downloads folder.

NotifySync Icon

Step 1a:

Begin by entering the full Email address associated with your ActiveSync server account.

Place a check in the box beside, Use Email as Username if you are required to use your email address as the username for authentication with the ActiveSync server.

Hint: Check with your IT administrator or Email Provider to verify if you are to use your full Email Address for the Username field or just the first section of your Email Address (everything before the @).

Step 1b:

Enter your user credentials.

In the Username field, enter the full email address or the username associated with your ActiveSync server account (usually everything before the @).  See Hint in Step 1a.

Enter the Password associated with your ActiveSync server account.

Step 1c:

In the field labeled “Domain”, enter the Domain.

(eStore customers check your NotifySync Registration Email.)

Hint:   If registration fails and displays errors, the device will return to the registration screen.  Try editing your Domain entry in one of the following ways:

The login you use to access Web mail may contain the Domain.  It is often in the format: Domain/username.  Try this Domain.

Sometimes the text that comes after the @ sign in your Email address is considered the Domain.  EX:  If your Email address is: name@company.com, your Domain may be company.com.

Sometimes the domain may use part of the text that comes after the @ sign in your Email address, with “.local” appended to it instead of “.com”.  EX:  If your Email address is: name@company.com, your Domain may be company.local.

Sometimes the NotifySync registration can be completed by leaving the Domain field blank.

Advanced screen

Step 1d:

The Network Setting field allows you to choose the network type NotifySync uses when opening network connections.  The default is Auto Detect which automatically chooses an appropriate network setting based on available services.

Accept Auto Detect and prioritize the connection types from the Advanced… screen, OR

Select a specific Preferred Network type.

Hint:  If you intend to use Direct Push synchronization, you must use TCP network provisioning.  See more on Auto Detect functionality and requirements here.

From the Advanced… screen, you may also set your preference for the Automatic Radio Cycle.  If attempts to open a network connection consistently fail, the device will:

Prompt you before it cycles the radio off and on (Prompt)

      Automatically cycle the radio (Yes)

Display a dialog advising you to restart manually (No)

Prioritize Connection Types for Auto Detect:

Select the Network Setting field and choose Advanced…

Use the arrows to change the priority of the connection types used or move them into the Do Not Use area.

Select Save from the menu.

Select Next to proceed to Step 2.

The device will make a connection and attempt to Autodiscover the ActiveSync server address based on the user credentials you have entered.

A progression bar displays while the process continues.  If you skip the Autodiscover process, you will have to manually enter the server address, as you would if the discovery was not successful.

Step 2a:

Enter your 8 character License Key.

(eStore customers check your NotifySync Registration Email.)

Hint: If you have purchased a BeamReader (PDF Viewer application) license, you will have a separate license key for activating the BeamReader license.  See Equipping Devices with BeamReader for activation instructions.

Step 2b:

Enter the Server Address

(eStore customers check your NotifySync Registration Email.)

This is the external address or domain name of your ActiveSync Server.  This field may already be populated if the Autodiscovery process was successful.

Hint:  This is usually the same address you use to log into Web mail.

If your server requires a non-standard port, it should be appended to the server address following a colon (EX: notifycorp.com:8080).  Check with the IT administrator to see if a non-standard port is required.

Step 2c:

Check the Use HTTPS box to enable SSL encryption.

If enabled, all data transferred between the server and your device is sent securely over HTTPS.  Ask your IT administrator if SSL is available to you.

You can also update the Network Setting here if you did not do so in Step 1.

Select Next to proceed to the Final Step.

Final Step

Select the type(s) of items you wish to synchronize.

-Check the box to synchronize Email.

-For PIM items (calendar, contacts, tasks, memos) choose whether you wish to:

Replace Device Items – Deletes items currently on the device and replaces them with items synchronized from the server.

Merge Items* – Merges the items that currently exist on the device and server together in both locations.

Do Not Sync – Prevents this item type from synchronizing.

*A note about Merging:  When items exist on both the server and device, choosing to Merge Items will result in duplicates on both the server and device.

Hints:

-If the Tasks or Memo Pad applications are not installed on the device, Tasks and Memos will not be available.
-Memo items cannot be merged.

Select Finish to initiate the registration.

If you chose to replace any of the PIM items (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Memos), a warning appears indicating that any items currently on the device will be deleted.

Before continuing, you may wish to backup important items that will be lost in this process.

When you are ready to proceed, select Yes.

You will see the device Inbox once the registration is completed.

Check the top-left corner to verify that the correct time and date are showing along with the Username that you entered.

The Inbox will populate as the device completes its first synchronization cycle.

Email Address Synchronization
NotifySync will verify the email address you entered during registration against the email address(es) associated with the active user account on the server.

The dialog box at left appears only if there is a discrepancy and allows you to choose another address from those listed on the server.
