Push Settings give you the ability to choose the type of synchronization (Scheduled Push or Direct Push) for your device and to customize how often your device synchronizes with the NotifyLink server. There are separate settings for weekdays and weekends. Synchronization can be turned off, set for all day, or set for intervals.
Scheduled Push – The device queries the server for new Email and PIM at the Push Frequency you have specified. Connections to the HTTP/Web server are opened then closed when the new items have been retrieved.
Direct Push – The objective of Direct Push is faster, more up-to-the-minute message delivery. The device maintains a constant HTTP connection for a period of time; the session continuing until it expires according to the set timeout (default is 15 minutes). It then reconnects 60 seconds later.
Note: For more
information on the Direct Push method of synchronization,
see the
reference document Direct Push Technology.
Setting Your Sync (Push) Preferences
1. Select the NotifyLink icon from the Home screen.
2. Select
Preferences from the Options drop-down menu or the
Preferences button.
3. Select Push from the Server options.
Hint: You can also access the Push
Settings from the NotifyLink Message List Screen. Select the
Push Status icon,
then the Push Settings button.
4. Select the Push Type. Choose Scheduled Push or Direct Push.
a. For Scheduled Push, define the following:
|
|
Scheduled Push Settings
|
Weekday Settings |
Set to: Off, Interval, or All Day to determine when the device will synchronize. If set to ‘Interval,’ choose the times you wish the synchronization to start and end. Times must be within one 24-hour period. Defaults are 7:00 to 19:00, resulting in the device synchronizing from 7am to 7 pm.
|
Weekend Settings |
Set to: Off, Interval, or All Day to determine when the device will synchronize. Defaults are the same as for weekday.
|
Push Frequency |
If you have set weekdays/weekends to All Day or Interval, type in the number of minutes between synchronizations (valid entry=1 to 90 minutes). Default is 5 minutes, resulting in the device synchronizing every 5 minutes.
b. For Direct Push, define the following:
|
|
Direct Push Settings | |
|
Weekday Settings |
Set to: Off, Interval, or All Day. If set to ‘Interval,’ choose the times you wish the synchronization to start and end. Times must be within one 24-hour period. Defaults are 7:00 to 19:00, resulting in the device synchronizing from 7am to 7 pm.
|
Weekend Settings |
Set to: Off, Interval, or All Day. Defaults are the same as for weekday.
|
Direct Push Timeout |
Select Advanced to access this setting. Time limit for a direct push session. Default is 15 minutes. The time limit is affected by the shortest timeout in the network path. It is recommended that all timeouts in the network path (such as firewall timeouts and carrier timeouts) match or exceed the direct push timeout. (See also, Direct Push Technology for more information.)
|
Refresh Interval |
Select Advanced to access this setting. This keeps the device’s inactivity timer from closing the connection during the Direct Push session. The default is 3 minutes and should not be changed unless you are instructed to do so by a NotifyLink Technical Support staff member.
5. Select Save from the menu.
