Push Settings

Push Settings give you the ability to choose the type of synchronization for your device and to customize how often your device synchronizes with the NotifyLink server.  There are separate settings for weekdays and weekends.  Synchronization can be turned off, set for all day, or set for intervals.

These synchronization sessions leave data already on the device untouched and automatically retrieve new email and PIM items from the server at the interval you have specified.

Note:  Direct Push synchronization is supported on Nokia Series 60 3rd Edition devices.  Users, however, may experience random issues based on the firmware version resident on the device.  If problems persist, you may wish to switch to Scheduled Push synchronization or contact Notify Technology technical support to verify the nature of the issue.

Setting Your Sync (Push) Preferences

1.  From the main NotifyLink menu, select Settings > Push Settings.

2.  Select the Access Point.  Choose which carrier/network your device will access.

3.  Select Yes to enable the Connection Warning or No to disable it.  If enabled, the following warning will appear each time NotifyLink attempts to gain network access.

NotifyLink is attempting to open a connection.  Do you want to allow this?

4.  Select the Push Type.  Choose Scheduled Push or Direct Push

a.  For Scheduled Push define the following:

Scheduled Push Settings

Weekday Settings

Set to: Disabled, Interval, or All Day to determine when the device will synchronize.  If set to Interval, choose the times you wish the synchronization to start and end.  If set to Interval or All Day choose the push frequency.

Weekend Settings

Set to: Disabled, Interval, or All Day to determine when the device will synchronize.  Settings and defaults are the same as for weekday.

Frequency

If you have set weekdays/weekends to All Day or Interval, type in the number of minutes between synchronizations (valid entry=1 to 90 minutes).  Default is 5 minutes, resulting in the device synchronizing every 5 minutes.

Start/Stop Times

Times you wish the synchronization to start and end.  Times must be within one 24-hour period.  Defaults are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

b. For Direct Push, define the following:

Direct Push Settings

Direct Push Max Wait

Time limit for a direct push session.  The time limit is determined by the shortest timeout in the network path.  It is recommended that all timeouts in the network path match or exceed the direct push max wait.  Default is 15 minutes.

Weekday Settings

Set to: Disabled, Interval, or All Day.  If set to Interval, choose the times you wish the synchronization to start and end.  Times must be within one 24-hour period.  Defaults are 7:00 to 19:00, resulting in the device synchronizing from 7am to 7 pm.

Weekend Settings

Set to: Disabled, Interval, or All Day.  Defaults are the same as for weekday.

For more information on the Direct Push method of synchronization, see the reference document Direct Push Technology

5.  Select Save from the Options popup menu.

Performing an On Demand Sync

Push Settings allow you to customize your device’s automated synchronization, but you can also manually initiate a synchronization session (an on demand sync) by using the Get/Send option from the menu of your message list screen.

Automated and on demand synchronization sessions are different from an OTA Load in that they do not erase existing data from the device and they retrieve email as well as PIM items.
