Device IT Policies

What are Device Policies?  While Server Policies determine what information is synchronized from the server to the device, Device Policy settings determine what information is synchronized from device to the server.  These policies can be set by the user from his or her device.  IT administrators also have the ability to set the policies from the server and even lock the settings so that the user is unable to change them.

Global Device Policies enable an administrator to define default settings for new devices registered on the system.  Access global device policies through:  Global IT Policies > Device Policies.

User Device Policies enable the administrator to customize the settings for an individual user.  Access user device policies through:  User Administration > User IT Policies > Device Policies

NotifyLink Preferences, part of the NotifyLink device client software installed on the device, gives users the ability to customize these settings themselves.  Policies set from the device will override policies set from the server.  However, many of the device policy settings can be locked so that a user is unable to change them on the device.

BLocked Settings.  Many of the device policy settings give the IT administrator the ability to lock the setting so that the user cannot change it from the device.  This is useful for enforcing corporate security policies.  You will see this symbol B beside settings that have this capability.

Note:  Device IT Policies may not all apply to iPhone/iPod touch users operating with the NotifyLink iPhone Solution.  See the Device IT Policy Comparison chart for a summary of supported policies for these users.
